Writing in Twenty-Nineteen

Happy New Year! Yes I know I am nine days overdue but it has been an eventful start to the new year.

As we finish rinsing our champagne glasses and packing away our decorations, our focus turns to the year ahead. So here’s the big question:

What are your writing ambitions for the next 12 months?

There’s something intriguing about this time of year. The chaotic calendar when you manage to squeeze a few hours here and there for your writing projects.

The holidays are a busy time but many of us take time off and slow down. We eat too much food and play board games; and read books and maybe, we write.

And if writing just doesn’t fit into your life during this season—if the thought of it is stressing you out, or make you feel bad, or leaving you stuck that’s okay. Building a sustainable creative writing practice sometimes means remembering it’s okay to take a breather.

Look to the rest of the year and let this year be about your goals, inspirations, and accomplishments.

So what are your writing ambitions for two-thousand and nineteen?

“Somewhere along the way we forget what makes us want more out of life — to put yourself in other peoples shoes, to slay dragons, to build and collapse empires; and save our protagonist and destroy the poison seeping throughout the lands. We should never forget why we do this. We are writers, this is our choice. Make twenty-nineteen your choice and create your realm.” Douglas W. T. Smith

Happy New Year.

  1. It’s totally not a sign of egomania to quote yourself. 😀 If you are overdue with new year’s blogging, I am extremely tardy and it doesn’t look like it’ll be getting better any time soon. I’ve been planning to send out my quarterly newsletter since the first, and I don’t think it’s going out this weekend either. Oh well.
